Everest University Expert Addresses Gang Issues at Oxford University International Symposium

Presentation Marks Third Visit Before the Prestigious Group of Peacekeepers

ORLANDO, Fla. March 20, 2009 — Everest University’s South Orlando campus criminal justice chair, Nancy Oesch, is scheduled to be a featured presenter at an April 1 Oxford Round Table (www.oxfordrountable.com) symposium on the campus of Oxford University in the United Kingdom.

Oesch will address the topic of “Imperilment of Our Children Due to Involvement with Youth Gangs” before the non-profit public policy organization with attendees who included eminent social scientists, attorneys and professors.

This appearance at the invitation-only event marks a repeat for Oesch, who previously presented on the topics of “Warning Signs and Preventative Approaches” and “Gang Activity and Drug Operations” in past years.

“I was thrilled to be asked back to update these world leaders on my research about gangs and gang-related activity,” Oesch says.

For more than a decade, Oesch has been considered one of the world’s leading gang experts – including serving as an expert witness on the subject in court.

Her many honors include being named a 2006 “Wall of Fame” inductee at her alma mater, Michigan State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in law enforcement.

Oesch began her career with the Michigan Department of Corrections in 1973 and went on to serve as the first female corrections officer in an all male prison facility.

As part of her ongoing commitment to criminal justice education, Oesch serves as department chair at Everest University and also maintains a high level of community involvement including many volunteer and speaking roles. Among those honors includes six years on the Orange County Sheriff’s Advisory Commission. Also, recently, she was appointed to serve on the Children’s Cabinet of Orange County and is playing an active role in the Orange County Sheriff’s Crime Summit.
